Our First Race

Jane Doe

Uh-Oh Motorsports began their racing adventures as FOG (Fat Old Guy) racing.

Team and Support Crew

For our inaugural event we had:

  • Monty Queener - Team Captain
  • Bobby Trimmer - Driver and Team Chef
  • Chris Sickler - Driver and Car chief (okay Chris had the most hours besides me working on the car)
  • Dave Wilson - Driver and Car artist
  • Eric Britt - Pit Crew and support staff
  • Tim Hansford - Pit Crew and suport staff
  • Special thanks to Hope Queener and Andreina Wilson for maintaining the households while their husbands went out and playyed race car driver

Pre-Race

Car preparation consumed the entire month of October and we really weren't prepared. I had always wondered why people showed up and didn't have a reliable car, and now I understand that for most weekend racers will likely underestimate the time it takes to prepare a car for the race. Especially since we started with a running car. So the final two weeks before the race, every spare moment was spent finishing car prep and trying to get some sort of theme going. We had some pretty simple goals for our first race:

  • Pass Tech
  • Everyone get a driving shift
  • No black flags

Passing tech inspection was out first worry: since no tech meant no race. Of course having a bunch of engineeers on the team is both a help (hey these guys are engineers - they know how to make stuff) and a hindrance (of course we can do that, lets just overcomplicate everything). We worried over every rule, we added too many gauges, we put in all the bells and whistles (quick release wheel, cool suit, adjustable race seat, etc.) What we did not do was clean or replace the fuel tank.

At the track Test and Tune

Test and tune is held the Friday before the race and represented our first chance to actually drive the car on the track. It costs and extra $200 but we felt it would be well worth the investment since we had never driven on atrack before and also had about a total of 15-30 minutes of runtime on the car.
